5-7 Years

Drawing and Mixed Media I

This is an Art fundamentals class that introduces the younger students to drawing, charcoal shading, oil pastels, watercolour and collage. We reference major artists in India and abroad. We also look at tribal art from around the world like Inuit, Warli, Gond and others. The focus is on artists who use simple lines and bold colours.

Drawing and Mixed Media II

For students who have completed Drawing & Mixed Media 1, we offer the next level. This class focuses more on technique in drawing, including scale, proportion and shading, while keeping the class light and fun. The topics continue to be about animals, people, robots, trees and other favorites among our young artists. Students continue to explore various mediums like watercolour, pastels and collage.

Drawing and Mixed Media III

This class builds on what the kids learned in the previous term in Drawing & Mixed Media 2. We go a step further by adding figure drawing to portraits, introduction to perspective in landscapes and using more collage and mixed media techniques. Students learn about more artists in India and the rest of the world and also start looking at simple aspects of architecture and product design.

Exploring Colour

The red dragon, the white angel, the blue feather – this course encourages students to look at the colour that surrounds them. Students explore the various concepts of mixing colours, colour and culture and colour and moods from found objects, illustrated books and artists. They work with different mediums from collage to mixing colours in paint and pastel. This class will be messy, colourful and a lot of fun.

Woof, Moo, Growl, Chirp

This is a light-hearted class with a focus on colour and texture. Students learn contour drawing and various techniques using mediums like oil pastels, dry pastels, water colours and collage.

Paper Craft

Paper artists from around the world have pushed the limits of the medium to unbelievable heights. While our students work on age appropriate paper art projects, we expose them to the leading paper artists and encourage them to do their own explorations as they explore the line between craft and art.

Tribal Art from Around the World

This class explores the art of a new culture each day – Aztec Art in South America, Inuit Art from North America, Aboriginal Art from Australia, Gond Art from India and Petrykivka or Ukrainian Folk Art from Russia. We learn about the leading artists in each type of art and the students do their own artworks with flowers, birds, animals and even the sun as their subjects. Tribal art is one of the best ways for children to gain mastery of line and colour and our course will emphasize both.
